The name Toby Keith is his first and middle name .. his last name is Covel. Keith has had 40 songs on the country charts to date with 17 - #1's to his credit. He now runs his own record label called Show Dog Nashville.

Keith grew up in Oklahoma, graduated high school and went to work in the oil fields, becoming an Operations Manager along the way. Since he learned guitar at age 8, he and a few oil field buddies played local bars in a band.

His dad was killed in Mar 2001 and due to the fault of the company vehicles brakes, the Keith's were awarded over 2 million in damages in 2007.

A flight attendent fan of his gave a demo tape to a Mercury Records executive on her flight ... and his career went up from there. Keith has appeared in several movies and has two Toby Keith restaurant locations called "I Love his Bar and Grill" .. one in Oklahoma City and one in Tulsa.

He and lead singer Natalie Maines had a feud going for awhile over the Iraq War and comments about George "W" Bush ... but that appears to have died down somewhat.
