He grew up being forced to learn guitar by his father but was playing the instrument before he was 10. He had some issues to
deal with as a young teen and got into trouble with booze, drugs and the law. By age 14 he was basically a juvenile delinquent with a string of offences.
His brother was also in trouble with the law to the point that at their first concert contest, Randy had to perform alone ..
but he won. The Club Manager, Lib Hatcher, began to represent Randy and tried to get his career going.
On The Other Hand was released in 1982 but didn't crack the top 40. But a 4 year later re-release in 1986 became Randy's first #1 hit.
By the mid 90's Nashville was taken over by other country artists and Travis's star faded somewhat.
He also changed his focus to concentrate on gospel music and do some acting. He and Lib Hatcher married in 1991.
